The PlayStation Experience 2015 keynote conference was full of splendor, but not everyone appreciated what was shown. Many complained that too few first-party games were shown during the conference and that the keynote seemed to focus on smaller games and indies.
According to Shuhei Yoshida, that was the plan all along and that our expectations were wrong. Cheers, Shu. Telling it like it is…
Yoshida stated that this year has probably been the biggest year in terms of big announcements in his career, something we’re not going to question. He also said that Sony plans its shows and that E3 and Paris Games Week were planned for big-name announcements and that PlayStation Experience was always going to focus on the smaller games and indies.

Sony’s PS4 stays ahead of the pack
The popularity of the PlayStation 4 is bolstering Sony’s long-term confidence for its flagship games console, after sales topped 30 million units last month.
The PS4 has become the fastest-selling home console ever, exceeding the early performance of the PlayStation 2, which went on to sell more units than any other console over its 12-year life.
Andrew House, president and global chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment, said at the weekend that he expected the PS4 to match or outpace the PS2’s sales in its first three to five years.
“We’ve just seen the most successful Black Friday in the company’s history,” he said in an interview with the Financial Times. “We are now trying to benchmark against the success of the PlayStation 2 – or exceed it if possible.”
The PS4’s performance has been boosted by growth in new markets such as the Middle East and China, after a 14-year ban on sales there was lifted in March. In Europe, meanwhile, Germany has become Sony’s largest console market for the first time, as gamers switch from PCs to PlayStations.
The company has been able to stay ahead of rivals such as Microsoft’s Xbox One and Nintendo’s Wii U partly through exclusive content partnerships with leading games makers. These have included a deal with Activision Blizzard, the world’s largest games publisher, for last month’s launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. Such deals have added to the PS4’s popularity with hardcore gamers.
Although the portable PlayStation Vita has not fared so well, Sony’s home console performed better than many analysts anticipated, given the huge growth in mobile gaming.
“Rumours of the demise of the console have been greatly exaggerated,” Mr House said. His comments suggested a more aggressive target than some analysts had forecast for a business that is becoming ever more central to Sony’s wider turnround.
Three years after its March 2000 launch, the PS2 had sold 51 million units, and by the end of 2005 more than 100 million had been sold.
IHS, the market researcher, predicted last month that the PS4 customer base would not exceed 100 million until 2020. But if the PS4 follows the PS2’s trajectory over its first five years, that milestone could be reached by the end of 2018.
Mr House was “hesitant to predict” that the PS4 would top the PS2’s lifetime sales of 155 million, given “the cadence at which people expect innovation” was speeding up.
He was speaking at the PlayStation Experience event in San Francisco, where Sony showed off its latest releases to 15,000 customers. Many attendees were most keen to try out the PlayStation virtual reality headset, slated for release in the first half of next year.
Mr House said he “started out as somewhat sceptical” of VR but was won over by The London Heist, a gangster game developed by one of Sony’s studios. “I had that amazing moment where I tried to put the controller on the table,” he said, only to realise the table existed in the virtual world of his headset.
Other early titles for PlayStation VR include: Ubisoft’s Eagle Flight, where the player soars above cities and between trees; Modern Zombie Taxi Co, a zany driving game; and 100ft Robot Golf, a science fiction sports simulator.
However, some leading publishers such as Electronic Arts and Activision are yet to announce significant commitments to VR gaming.
IHS has predicted just 2.5m VR headsets will be sold next year, with PlayStation leading rivals such as Oculus and HTC’s Vive.
“I don’t think those kinds of volumes would be either unrealistic or a disappointment,” Mr House said.

captain carotTeilnehmerIrgendwie wenig verwunderlich.

UPDATED Grand Theft Auto San Andreas PS4 Frame-Rate Test [UK vs US] | DigitalFoundry
UPDATE 8/12/15 4:52pm: We’ve been looking at more PlayStation 2 titles running under emulation on PlayStation 4, and it now seems clear that all the UK code we’ve tested is running at 50Hz with a crude frame-blending ‘upscale’ to the 60Hz output. We made an error in the original analysis below – GTA San Andreas under emulation does have some frame-pacing issues, but much of the judder we encountered is actually a result of the frame-blending, registering to our eyes (and our analysis tools) as unique frames when in fact they are simply the interpolated results of two images – we did think that it may be an artefact of the emulator working with PS2’s original motion blur effect, but this is definitely not the case. Credit goes to commenter Malek86 for noting that his copy of Twisted Metal Black is definitely European code, albeit outputting at 60Hz – a situation we have also confirmed with Dark Cloud. This was originally a 60fps game in NTSC territories, running at 50fps on the PS4 emulator, then frame-blended back up to 60fps. As you may imagine, this is not ideal.
We decided to produce a GTA San Andreas analysis highlighting the difference between our ‘NTSC’ and ‘PAL’ releases. We also cleaned up a short section of footage to confirm that the base frame-rate of San Andreas on our UK PSN code is indeed 25fps. And to conclude, we re-ran the original frame-rate test between PS2, PS3 and PS4 versions of the game, all using 60Hz code.
Obviously, for those of us in Europe, this is a somewhat disappointing state of affairs. The PAL territories were blighted with poorly adapted code that often featured letterboxing, slowdown or other artefacts in the transition from 60Hz to 50Hz. In terms of the PS2 titles emulated on PlayStation 4, performance is the only applicable issue here, but it does make a tangible difference. We’ve tested all three GTA titles now and it’s clear that the situation isn’t exactly optimal. In fact, we do recommend buying from the US store to get the best possible experience with the emulated PS2 titles. Now, there are perfectly good reasons why Sony has made this decision – foreign language translation for European countries for example – plus as Malek86 points out, there are some censorship issues to contend with. But it seems that Sony has had to get these titles re-certified by PEGI anyway, and we would hope that the firm does consider bringing native 60Hz titles to its current-gen 60Hz console in the future.

captain carotTeilnehmerIm Prinzip ganz einfach. Emulator = einmal entwickelt und fertig.
Port=jedes Spiel einzeln portieren.
