„I received a DM from someone on Instagram about this thread, so I thought I would chime in here. I appreciate the plugs on this website btw!
Nate’s particular quote can easily be misconstrued. It was specifically over Nintendo’s micromanagement over things such as moving a shoulder pad on a character and flying all the way from Japan to change one little thing like that and he was arguing that in the grand scheme of things that isn’t important and then if they do that why do they choose to not focus on other things. Also Nate personally stated in the interview he is just not a fan of that style of management, so its mainly a preference thing, he also said that no one from Japan ever told him what to do it was all hearsay.
From what I understand from all the Retro Devs I have spoken to Nintendo producers are VERY VERY picky on things involving design, and the question – is this fun? if its not they dont care they will flip the tea table on you, even if art assets have been made.
Also in regards to the project they were on between DKCTF and Metroid Prime Remastered, it was some type of Music RPG game where the main mechanic was singing, it was a huge disaster and after years of it going nowhere, Nintendo cancelled the project and put Retro on remastering the FULL Metroid Prime Trilogy, this was also to help Retro develop the production pipeline to be able to outsource for assistance in the future (since all their games were all internally made, you also see a lot of external studios help on Prime 1 Remastered). When everything fell through with Bandai Namco’s work on Prime 4 it was given back to Retro, they patched things up with Tanabe after their fallout and they could only finish a remaster of the first Prime as all resources had to be moved to Prime 4. Unsure what the story is now with Prime 2 & 3 Remastered.
Hope that helps to clarify things„

FuffelpupsTeilnehmerDer Nachfolgende Switch 2 Leak ist NSFM – Not Safe for Manufactoring (explicit nudity)
Das komplette all in one package…

“re: Chip markings
S – Vendor ID (SPIL)
TW – Country of origin (Taiwan)
24… – Manu year & week (2024 ???)
SNW8VF.M0P – Fab code (S) + lot code (NW8VF) + ??? (M0P)Here are all the chips I can identify. Some may have already been covered by earlier posts. I’m not reading most of the current discussion.
Nvidia GMXL30-R-A1
The SoC. Not sure why they thought this part code needed to be censored, but that’s what it is.
SKhynix H58GE6AK8B X107 425A
The 6GB LPDDR5X RAM. As I mentioned, Nintendo is multi-sourcing RAM from Micron, Samsung, and Hynix. We already had Micron’s part number, MT62F768M64D4EK-026, and now we have the one for Hynix. Hynix’s spotty parts catalog doesn’t have this exact part number, but has several similar ones (H58GE6AK8QX107N, H58GE6AK8VX107N, H58GE6AK8PX107N), although those are x16 and not x64 like the Switch 2 will use. Micron’s part was 7500 MT/s, while Hynix doesn’t seem to make any of those, so it’s likely that Nintendo is taking the 8533 MT/s parts they have available and clocking them for 7500 MT/s.
GL852G KLA0160 4227800
This is GL852G-OHY60 from Genesys Logic, a USB 2.0 hub controller which we recently discovered is not used in the dock (which is using the same USB 3.0 hub as previous Switch models). Since it’s in the console, it’s most likely used for the Joy-Cons.
B2349 GCBRG HAC STD T2010423
The Lotus game card ASIC (“GC bridge”) from MegaChips. Evidently this is similar enough to the previous models’ that it has the same kind of part number, and still includes HAC, the product code for the Switch, rather than being a new chip with a BEE designation. That said, it’s possible that this is for game card backwards compatibility only, and new game cards will be read by a different chip. There is another IC nearby in the photo, but its markings aren’t visible.
PI2SSD 3212NCE 2344EG
This is PI2SSD3212NCEX from Diodes Incorporated. This was first seen in May (March data), but I didn’t post about it because it seemed like a fairly generic IC. Looking into it further, it’s actually specifically for memory controlling applications. Based on its placement, it seems to be related to the game card slot. I don’t think the current Switch models have a similar chip, though I don’t know for sure, so this might indicate what direction Nintendo went in for the card interface (though not the storage type) for new Switch 2 game cards. If so, that would also support the inclusion of GCBRG HAC STD being for BC only. I’ll let someone else who knows more about memory reader interfaces delve into this.
[Realtek logo] ALC5658 [illegible] [illegible]
This is ALC5658-CG from Realtek, the audio codec chip.
IG2200 [illegible] [illegible] [illegible]
This is another chip from the March batch I didn’t post about, because I couldn’t (and still can’t) find any information about it. Whatever it is, it seems to be from a vendor that isn’t providing any other chips for either the current Switch models or Switch 2, and it seems to be at least a non-trivial part (i.e. not a capacitor or voltage switch or something). Learning that it’s inside the console dismisses some possibilities I’d considered, like the Joy-Con IMU for gyro, or an IR emitter or similar part. I don’t know whether its placement near the audio codec chip means anything.
[T] [illegible]
The chip in the far corner is the THGJFGT1E45BAILHW0 256 GB UFS 3.1 storage from Kioxia. This is identifiable because of the Toshiba/Kioxia “T” chip maker mark, but the part number is illegible. Nintendo is multi-sourcing storage from Kioxia, Samsung, and Hynix.
[illegible]
The large, blank-looking chip in the middle is going to be MT3681AEN, the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth combo chip from MediaTek.
Some other notable chips that are probably on the board, but I can’t identify, are the CYPD6228-96BZXI USB-C controller from Cypress/Infineon and PN7160B1HN/C100 NFC reader from NXP. Obviously there are also going to be other things like a battery IC, power management ICs, etc. The SD Express card reader is probably on a daughterboard.
Edit: The two identical chips in between the codec/IG200 and the back of the SoC/RAM shield could be one CYPD6228-96BZXI for each of the two USB-C ports. The large circle mark on them definitely looks like it could be Cypress.
Edit 2: Not sure why I said the SD Express reader is “probably” on a daughterboard, since we already know that a BEE-SD-01 daughterboard exists for it. The microphone is also on a separate board, BEE-MIC-01.
Edit 3: I forgot that every single part in Hynix’s catalog seems to be listed as x16, so that’s probably just an error.”
