“Pokemon is killing Nintendo

The end of November period brought just about the worst possible news for Nintendo: The latest Pokemon games sold a dazzling 1.5 million units in Japan during launch week.

It’s a massive number in a market where few titles manage to crack the 100,000 unit barrier during their debuts. The hot Pokemon rollout helped once again revive the aging 3DS portable console sales, boosting the weekly unit sales number to 83,000. This is more than seven times higher than weekly sales of Sony’s flagship PS4 console in Japan.

This toxic triumph was precisely what Nintendo did not need. The company requires shock therapy to force its hidebound executives to abandon their preposterous opposition to launching Nintendo’s beloved franchises on iPad. Instead, the ancient Nintendo properties from its ’80s and ’90s halcyon days keep performing well enough to enable the company to keep its head in the sand.

Nintendo is not crashing fast enough. The core device franchise, the 3DS, has now sold nearly 2.4 million units in Japan so far this year, which is substantially below the 4 million units it sold in the same period last year. But the erosion is simply too slow to force the company to change its mind about getting into the mobile app market. The strong Pokemon sales numbers from its home market just gave the reactionary wing of Nintendo’s management a new argument to stay the course and keep hanging onto its slowly sinking game console platforms.

While Nintendo’s console sales slide, the mobile game market is about to hit $22 billion in 2014 and is poised to balloon to $30 billion in 2016. So many of the most famous and lucrative game franchises are sitting out the tablet and smartphone game explosion completely – Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Castlevania, Pokemon, etc.

Animal Crossing would be a perfect fit for the iPad and the monetization potential of its item collection system boggles the mind. Dr. Mario and other puzzle gems Nintendo has created could challenge the billion-dollar Candy Crush Saga empire so easily. F-Zero and Mario Kart are precisely the kind of rally games that fit the tablet format.

What could possibly be more delicious than Advance Wars for iPad? An insanely addictive, turn-based strategy game that begs for a connected, touchscreen-based device with a micro-payment system. Who amongst us would not pay $1.99 for new AW campaigns every damn month

Nintendo is missing out on billions of dollars in totally new revenue with development costs that would be substantially below of what the Wii U requires. But with every passing quarter, Nintendo’s brand power becomes a little less valuable and relevant to younger consumers. Franchises like Castlevania and Metroid are already unknown to the new generation.

The sweet elixir of Pokemon 3DS profits are a slow venom dripping into Nintendo’s veins, numbing the mind of the company that needs to embrace change right now.”

Ein Risiko besteht immer und überall siehe SWOT/TOWS-Analyse, egal ob Fortsetzung oder originär. Mir ging es hier darum, dass man hinterfragen sollte, warum es so ist, ob es am Ende für den Hersteller dann zum Erfolg führt, ist eine andere Frage. Ich bin kritisch, aber immer mit Blick auf das große Ganze.

Früher gab es auch schon Fortsetzungen, nur nicht in dem Maße. Früher war das Markenbewusstsein der Hersteller und der Kunden nicht so stark ausgeprägt wie heute. Früher war der Film noch in einer anderen Phase, als neue Genres geboren wurden, der Fundus an Szenarien und Handlungen noch unverbraucht war.

Produkt Nachfolger sind in jeder Branche, ob bei Konsum oder Gebrauchsgütern eine für die Unternehmung erstrebenswerte Entwicklung um Marken aufzubauen und um bei entsprechendem Erfolg in zukünftige Nachfolger als sichere Anlage zu investieren, einen Nutzen aus der Nachhaltigkeit der Produkte ziehen. Dass sich daraus für einige Konsumenten ein einseitiges Angebotsbild ergibt, ist ein Nebeneffekt. Aber mal ehrlich, wer würde bei einem erfolgreichen Produkt auf einen Nachfolger verzichten wollen, wenn dieser für die Existenz der Unternehmen, der Sicherung der Arbeitsplätze und der Befriedigung der Aktionäre dienlich ist. Als reiner Konsument fällt die Kritik natürlich leichter, als wenn man Entscheidungsträger in einer solchen Situation wäre. Kritik ist wichtig, aber man sollte dabei nicht vergessen, dass es hier nicht ausschließlich darum geht, dem Kunden zu unterhalten, sondern auch ein Unternehmen am Leben zu halten.

Ich bleibe unvoreingenommen, bis ich den Film gesehen habe, sprich, er rangiert bei mir in keiner Kategorie.

“Und das Marketing Blabla von Pratt ist derart random, das hat null Aussagekraft. “
Sehe ich etwas anders. Der Film hätte auch überhaupt keine Humorelemente beinhalten können. Zudem spricht er auch über seine Figur, wo wir bis vorhin nicht wussten, wie sie ausgelegt war.
Er vergleicht den Humoranteil mit dem von Teil 1. Das hat die Frage doch beantwort bzgl. seiner Figur und der Ausrichtung (Blockbusterfilm mit leichten Humoreinschlag).

Ich meine gar nichts, sondern vermute es einfach mal frei raus. Und ob du meine Ansicht für richtig hältst ist mir ziemlich egal. Es gibt keinen Maßstab dafür, was richtig und falsch ist. Subjektive Ansichten.

Chris Pratt über seine Figur, die ernst ist, und den vorhandenen Humor im Film:

As the Guardians of the Galaxy press junket continues, Chris Pratt again has spoken about his next role as Owen in Jurassic World. In an interview with ComicBook.com, he gave some insight into his character and what kind of humour we can expect in the film.

“In Jurassic World, the character is unlike any other one I’ve played and he’s not like Peter Quill. There’s not much humour, I think he’s a little more John Wayne than Marty McFly. He’s deadly serious. There are comedic elements in the film, just not coming from my character. Jake Johnson has a funny role and there’s that release valve of comedy throughout the course of the movie. It’s similar to the original Jurassic Park in that way, how you had Samuel L. Jackson and Wayne Knight. There’s humour but then, from page 25 on, there’s not that much to laugh about. I’m watching people get eaten and I’m trying to save the lives of thousands of people.”

A lot of the actors that have been cast in Jurassic World are from comedic backgrounds, including Chris Pratt, so some people were worried that the film may be funnier than any previous Jurassic film. Colin Trevorrow has stated his reason for casting comedy actors before, and now those who were worried can put that worry to rest.

Many also assumed that Jake Johnson would have a similar role to Samuel L. Jackson in the control room and that’s a very fitting role for him. I love that from 25 pages in, that’s when things go wrong. I can’t wait for this movie!

Da ich hier nicht wieder eine ausufernde Diskussion führen möchte, habe ich den zweiten Absatz wieder entfernt. Der erste Edit sollte den ersten Absatz geklärt haben – es ist Humor vorhanden (in Anlehnung an Teil 1), Bratt Charakter ist aber bierernst.

Eine solche Kleintat findet bei Star War auch gerade statt, nur um das Dreifache potenziert, was einige scheinbar positiv betrachten und den Fortsetzungswahn und die Ideenlosigkeit hier nicht anprangern.

Chris Pratt kommt aus dem komödiantischen Fach, weshalb ich vermute, dass der Film in eine solche Richtung sich entwickeln könnte, was das mit der eigentlichen Qualität des Drehbuchs (darauf wolltest du mit deiner Aussage wahrscheinlich hinaus) zu tun hat weiß wohl nur du selbst.

Zudem habe ich keine Aussage zu der Qualität des Filmes geäußert.

Der Film ist mit Chris Pratt aus Guardians of the Galaxy – da könnte der Film durchaus einen anderen Ton einschlagen, was der Reihe eine neue Note verleiht, die unterhaltsam sein kann.

Daher einfach mal abwarten und schauen, was sich daraus entwickelt.

Der Film wird definitiv auch geschaut, mag das Ägypten Setting und den Found Footage Look – aber dann im beschaulichen “Heimkino”
(Hab nach 2 Min. abgebrochen, ist mir zu spoilerisch ab da^^)
